Built in the early 16th century in relation to the first celebration of Corpus Christi in Tenerife, the Church of Conception in San Cristobal de La Laguna is one of the oldest Christian places of worship on the island. The tower of this church is, however, a more recent addition to the original structure, dating back to the 17th century. The edifice was restored repeatedly, meaning sundry original elements have been overshadowed by the new ones. All in all, the church stands out as a combination of architectural styles, and its artistic highlights refer to an altarpiece which gives the name of the church, and to several other altarpieces embellished with sundry paintings of notable artistic value.
