The Pyramids of Guimar represent, perhaps, the most controversial historic site in Tenerife. Certain archeologists and historians alike have maintained, and still do, that the pyramids date back only to the 19th century, not to mention the fact when they were discovered, they were believed to be terrace-like structures of agricultural relevance. However, mainstream archeologists and historians have recently been challenged by another hypothesis, namely, that the pyramids date back to the Guanche era, given a fair range of proofs apparently sustaining this theory.
All in all, the Pyramids of Guimar are a notable attraction in Tenerife, the authority managing it being the Ethnographic Park of the Pyramids of Guimar.
