In order to get to Tenerife, tourists have two chief options: they can get there either by air or by sea.
Unlike Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, Tenerife is serviced by two major airports: Tenerife North Airport (Los Rodeos) and Tenerife South Airport (Reina Sofia). This is, perhaps, one of the main reasons Tenerife is, from a tourist point of view, the most successful of all the Canary Islands, managing to amass the highest flow of tourists.
The two airports do not only provide connections with the mainland Europe (Amsterdam, Madrid, Barcelona, Munich, Dublin, Rome, Milan, Copenhagen, Brussels, Luxembourg, Paris, Budapest, Moscow, Bucharest, for instance), but they also make available, by means of the airline companies servicing them, flights between Tenerife and other Canary Islands, which renders island hopping pretty tempting. In addition, Tenerife has fine air connections with non-European destinations, such as Miami, Dakar and Caracas. Obviously, Tenerife is a top destination at a global scale.
More than 60 airline companies operate at these two airports. International flights are covered by Air One, Austrian Airlines, Ryanair, Thomas Cook Airlines, just to count a few, whereas inter-island flights are ensured by Binter and Islas Airways. In addition, both low-cost and major airline companies offer their services to a somewhat miscellaneous flow of visitors, providing them with the opportunity of exploring Tenerife regardless of budget.
Trasmediterranea and Naviera Armas are the main sea line companies providing trips to and from Tenerife. The main two ports servicing both the tourist and the commercial platform of Tenerife are Los Cristianos and Santa Cruz. Los Cristianos is located in the municipality of Arona, in south west Tenerife, whereas Santa Cruz pertains to the namesake municipality, Santa Cruz being, in fact, the capital of Tenerife. Both Trasmediterranea and Naviera Armas are actually headquartered in Santa Cruz. The distance between the two ports is of some 70 kilometers.
